President's Cup

The Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA) is pleased to announce the first edition of the President’s Cup. This Elite event is open to players from across the world and will be biennial, the event will happen alongside the Africa Youth Scrabble Championship soon to be announced by PANASA. A total Prize Pot of $31,250 will be shared amongst the winners. Please find below details of this event

PANASA is pleased to announce that Kenya Airways have granted our request for a discount for all travel to Lagos Nigeria from all PANASA member countries during the period of the Africa Youth Scrabble Championship and President’s Cup. Please see terms and conditions of the discount below

  • Discount Code – PANAS2023
  • Flat rate of 15% will be applied on the cost of the tickets being purchased.
  • Tickets can be purchased using the code from 12th February 2023 until 15th August 2023.
  • Travel period must be between 19th August to 31st August 2023.
  • The following fare types are covered by this discount, these are: C, D, I, B. M, U, K, H, L, Q, T, E & N
  • Trips on Kenya Airways starting from the following airports will be considered for the discount provided they are within the fare types listed above. These airports are:

  • Tickets without approved fare types and tour code will be required to pay market fare.

VISA TO NIGERIA

Players can apply for e-Visas to Nigeria by visiting portal.immigration.gov.ng and uploading their documents, filling out the online application form and making payments. Approval is granted by the Nigeria Immigration Service via the email provided between 1-3 days. Players are to travel with the printed approval letter. For all payments made online, there is no need to pay on arrival in Nigeria. The approval letter expires after 14 days of issue. Visa fee starts from $2 but varies from country to country. Please check on the Nigeria immigration portal for the exact fee that applies for your country. PANASA will issue invitation letters to players upon Registration for the Championship.

AIRPORT PICK-UP & DROP-OFF

PANASA will be responsible for picking and dropping off all players travelling into Nigeria thru the International Airport in Lagos, Nigeria. Please ensure to share flight details with the PANASA secretariat via email i.e. info@panafricanscrabble.com. This should be done at least 48hrs before the travel date. Thank you. PANASA Partners Air Peace

Following the Partnership between the Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA) and Air Peace Limited, the following routes will now attract a 20% discount on air ticket fares. These are:

  • Booking Process:
  • 1. Interested players should send an email to: info@panafricanscrabble.com stating the ff; Gender, Title, First Name, Last Name, Nationality, Departing from, Departure Date, Return Date (for Round Trip), ID Card type, ID Card Number, Telephone Number (Including Country Code), Date of Birth (Adult is 12+) and Email address.
    Note: Given names must appear the same way they are on the players passport.
  • 2. PANASA will forward details to Air Peace Limited.
  • 3. Air Peace Limited will make the reservation and share reservation details with PANASA and the player by email. This will include the ticket price, the payment options available and payment deadline.
  • 4. Player pays and shares confirmation back with PANASA and Air Peace Limited.
  • 5. Air Peace Limited confirm payment and issue ticket.
  • 6. PANASA to pick player up at the Airport on arrival in Lagos, Nigeria.

We enjoin all players attending the Africa Youth Scrabble Championship and the President’s Cup to take advantage of the reduced fares. Notes:

  • 1. Poolside with the President event starts at 7pm on the day of arrival i.e., Wednesday August 23rd. Cocktails & Finger food will be served over Jazz & Soul music. This is an opportunity for all players to socialize ahead of the start of games the next day.
  • 2. The Presidents Cup goody bag will include a Nigerian print attire (Top only), Scrabble Track-Off Booklet, Pen and Scrabble Tile bag.
  • 3. Morning & Evening Tea Break is for the period of the tournament i.e., 24th - 26th August 2023. Various types of Tea and Cookies will be served.
  • 4. Refreshments provided by our sponsor will replace the Morning Tea Break on Sunday 27th August 2023.
  • 5. Buffet Lunch is for the entire stay i.e., 24th – 27th August 2023.
  • 6. Gala Night is on Sunday 27th August 2023. It starts at 7pm local time. ALL players are requested to come with an Evening Dress or Suit.
  • 7. The Jasmine block consists of well-presented modern furnished rooms and facilities.
  • 8. The Rose block consists of much larger well-presented rooms, but rooms are not as modern as those in the Jasmine block.
  • 9. PANASA will not allocate players for the Double Occupancy registration. All players looking to share must nominate their roommate at the point of registration. Registration for double occupancy must be done at the same time.
  • 10. All accommodation options come with Breakfast & Buffet lunch.
  • 11. The accommodation is on a 5-night basis i.e., Arrival (23rd August) & Departure (28th August).
  • 12. Buffet dinner is at an extra cost of $12 per head at the hotel. There are many other food stalls in the area with different meal options.
  • 13. Registration Portal will open on Wednesday 1st March 2023 and will close on Friday 21st July 2023 at 1800hrs Nigerian time (GMT +1). PANASA will not accept late entries.
  • 14. Local players who choose to pay in the local currency will be asked to pay using the USD exchange rate (BUY) on the day of their registration.
